Limbe & Yaounde

We spent 4 nights in Limbe so that most of the group could climb Mount Cameroon. Given that I do not enjoy going uphill, I stayed back with a small group of abstainers. We had a fantastic time at a hotel on the water. The majority of the time was spent relaxing and eating! We went multiple times to Arne's cafe at the monkey sanctuary and stuffed ourselves with burgers, pizza and cheese! ( good cheese is a luxury these days and very hard to find!) We slept in, played games and enjoyed this bit of down time!

We spent two nights in Yaounde at the presbyterian guesthouse. Just long enough to get some visa business sorted out! The lady who runs this place is a bit psycho! She attacked a journalist who had comet interview us, slamming his dictaphone into a brick wall and waving her walking stick at him! She yelled and screamed for about 15 minutes before calling the pastor to come sort things out! She also called Ivy a heathen for doing some yoga exercises on her property. If you are going to stay here.... Think again.

I spent my free time in Yaounde shopping for African wax cloth and trolling through the artisan market. Generally speaking, I have not bought myself much in the way of souvenirs. All the masks and statues just don't do it for me. The fabric is another matter. You can find the most amazing prints for super cheap and then have skirts or dresses tailored for as little as $5.00. In Cameroon, I noticed a new print that commemorates international women's day. Apparently, this holiday is celebrated here yearly. A new print comes out and the tailors get busy making dresses! On march 8th, the women and girls will dress up and parade through the streets in their outfits to celebrate the achievements of women!

Lisa took This beautiful photo in a fabric market in Togo! Below you can see the skirt I had made!
