Meknes / Volibulus

After bush camping in Rabat, we headed off to Meknes and to visit the ancient roman ruins of volibulus and to visit the town. I was not feeling well when we got to Meknes and upgraded to a room with a few other people. This was a good decision because it was warm and relaxing! The day that the others went into town I hung back and had a lazy day, reading, sleeping and enjoyed along hot shower while no one else was around to use it all up!

The ruins of Volubilis sit amidst a valley of fertile farm land and is known to be one of the roman empire's most remote outposts. At it's peak, it is thought to have housed about 20 000 people. The site was inhabited until the 18th century when an earthquake finally ruined the buildings in 1755. This place was stunning, the landscape was every bit as enchanting as the thought of the romans living here Making olive oil!
