I am sitting across from the fort in a quaint restaurant writing this blog! The view is magical and something I will not soon forget! Later I will walk down the road to the Internet cafe that has excellent wifi access and send the blogs your way! (Dylan cafe)

The coolest part, is that people still live inside the fort! The narrow alleyways are full of little shops. We also visited the town outlaw the fort and wandered through the streets soaking up the atmosphere of the place. One of the best things in the narrow streets of the old town are the havelis, old houses with ornate carvings and decorative balconies. Most of them are carved from wood and sandstone.

Here are some great shots of the city life in the old town around the fort.

Yes! That is a cow halfway inside a shop! The owner was reading his newspaper, oblivious to any intrusion!
Jaisalmer also has a beautiful lake that was man made to hold the rainwater that comes during the monsoon season. It was beautiful!

Here is a local man that was trying to sell necklaces....

After a thorough visit of the town, we went on a camel safari in the Thar desert. This was a little disappointing. We thought we would take the camels out I to the desert to camp, and then return the next day. Instead we went to a very nice permanent tent camp, where we were entertained by dancers. When we went out on the camels, we stopped just long enough to see the sun go down and then we returned to the camp. The beggars in the desert were numerous, but the women are so beautifully dressed I couldn't help but sneak a few photos!

( p.s. These pretty ladies were actually men)
Tomorrow we leave by public bus to go to Jodhpur. The ride is an estimated 7 hours. I am excited to move on now, and totally fascinated by India. I can't believe how much we have seen and experienced in five short days!
