Uganda -Lake Bunyoni and Kabale

At the border crossing between Rwanda and Uganda we saw the United Nations Food programme vehicles and stood in a long line to get our visas to enter. After crossing over, we headed up a steep mountain side and passed through spectacular farmland. The people farm all the hilly terrain but without terracing the land. The lush green fields and vegetation sprawled on forever until we reached lake Bunyoni. Here we had some time to relax. Some people went on a boat ride on a mad mission to find a place to watch the soccer game. Others like me, relaxed around the camp fire and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The following afternoon we headed into Kabale. We were all eager to use the Internet but none of the many Internet cafes actually worked! Seems very few places have generators in case of power failure. Everywhere in Africa, power failures are frequent and just a part of daily life. For us westerners, this is often frustrating. We stayed at the little ritz camp, a very quaint little place. Unfortunately while we slept, we were robbed! Some tents were opened and bags were removed, one tent was even slashed with a knife! I was lucky and had nothing stolen. The evening before I had had a bad feeling and did not sleep soundly at all. I heard voices about 4 am but just assumed it was the security guards of the campsite. The next day, our plans to drive all day from Kabale to Kampala were ruined and we spent until 2:00pm dealing with the police. They eagerly rounded up suspects and questioned about four people. The police were over zealous about prying information from people. Since we didn't want anyone hurt without solid evidence of guilt we asked the police to release everyone and drop the matter. Then we headed off to a bush camp.
