Bulawayo- Rhinoceros Walk

From Victoria falls we headed to Bulawayo to walk with the rhinos and explore the Matobos national park. The park itself was stunning with many interesting rock formations and interesting landscapes. After lunch at a stunning damn area, we headed Off on foot to find the Rhinos. Our guide Norman, has been working with these animals for a long time and was able to track them and get us up close. He kept asking, "want to get closer?". Of course even terrified, we all said yes. No kidding, Norman got us less than half a city block away from these gigantic beasts! These were white Rhinos. They are grazers and their mouths are wider than a black rhino. As previously mentioned on this blog, rhinos are in great danger from poachers and eventual extinction! In the Matobas park, all the rhinos have been dehorned to prevent poachers from killing them. According to our guide, a rhino horn is one of the most valuable items on the black market... Because of it's use in traditional Chinese medicine.
