Udaipur

The bus to Udaipur was a long hot trip, about 7 hours total. It was very neat though as one side of the bus had bunk beds and the other side had seating with a row of beds on top! The driver's helper hung out the front door when we drove through small towns screaming, "Udaipur, Udaipur, Udaipur!" just like in an old fashioned movie! When we arrived the first thing I noticed was that this city was MUCH cleaner than the others and way more touristy! This city is known for it's lakes and for its Rajput-era palaces. The Lake Palace, covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake.

We took a wonderful boat ride on the lake to view all of the old and new palaces, many of which are now fancy luxury hotels.

In the afternoon, we toured the palace museum and then went to watch a cultural dance show. We also participated in an Indian cooking class at the "Spice Box".
This was excellent fun! I now have a much better understanding of what I am ordering in restaurants and I know how to cook up an excellent curry sauce and chapati ( a wheat flower bread).
